Advocating for students with disabilities for over 15 years
Emma Peterson, M. Ed., created P.A.C.E. based on her passion to support students who are receiving special education services in the private, public and charter school settings. As a classroom teacher, site supervisor and district administrator she worked with a wide range of disabilities and while she saw positive results and student growth, she also saw the inequalities of resources, a deficit in instruction, untrained staff and lack of overall opportunities for students with special needs. P.A.C.E. was built on the foundation that these children are owed instruction, staff and school policies that give them a platform to access their fundamental right of a free and appropriate education. To ensure these students meet and surpass their potential, Ms. Peterson fights tirelessly to work with parents to ensure their children have an exceptional educational plan, that meet the needs of their exceptional child. To ensure schools are equipped to provide and implement these programs, Ms. Peterson works as a collaborative partner with schools to make sure staff are trained, materials are allocated, and instruction is delivered in an effective manner to foster student growth.

Services
Consultation
School meetings, IEP paperwork and communication with your child’s teachers and administrators can be very overwhelming. With either an in person consultation or a phone conference, we can discuss the issues facing your child, the laws and protections in place for them, as well as your rights as the parent.
School site audit
In order to truly assess how successful your special education program is, your site must first have an accurate picture of the effectiveness of the instruction and policies in place. A review of academic, behavioral and assessment data, in compliance with FERPA, will be completed and feedback will be provided.
Review of records
It is important to review the current data for your child to create a vision and plan for the future. Academic and behavioral data, district/state assessment, evaluations and past/present IEP’s will be reviewed and you will be provided feedback.
Professional Development Training
With the complexity and legal implications of special education, identifying the strengths and areas of need in your support staff, teachers and administrators is vital. Once these areas are identified, professional development training can be presented in a whole group setting with topics such as: IEP Compliance, Classroom Academic and Behavioral Interventions or in a smaller specific group setting with topics such as: Writing a Compliant IEP, Differentiation for Specific Disabilities and Conducting an FBA to create a BIP.
IEP Meeting Support
The process of developing a comprehensive IEP and building working relationships with the school team can prove difficult. Having a representative to ensure your vision is heard, a representative with an expertise in special education policy, disability characteristics, classroom instruction/intervention can be best.
Coaching
So often, educators we will participate in training and learn the fundamentals of a new program, policy or structure. However, when the time comes to implement your new knowledge in the classroom, there can be challenges or times students are not progressing in ways a teacher or team may have hoped. For these reasons, real-time classroom coaching, with productive feedback can be the most beneficial. Additionally, providing support on progress monitoring and a brainstorm partner when adjustments need to be made will be offered.
